Reflection on Allah’s favours is an excellent act of worship.
Remembrance of Allah is a pillar of faith and protection from Satan.
Remembrance of Allah is defined by Imam Ja’far al-Sadiq (A.S.) in Lantern of the Path as follows:
He who truly remembers Allah is the one who obeys Him: whoever forgets is disobedient. Obedience is the mark of guidance, disobedience the sign of misguidance. The root of both states lies in remembrance (dhikr) and forgetfulness. Make your heart the focal point of your tongue, which should not move unless the heart indicates, the intellect agrees and your tongue accords with belief. Almighty Allah knows what you conceal and what you reveal.
When you stand for prayer, imagine that it is your last.
A worshiper without knowledge is like the mill donkey; it rotates but it does not leave its place.
Staying awake at night to worship Allah is springtime for holy persons and a garden for the happy.
Worshiping Allah at night means performing (صلاة الليل); which roughly translates to (prayer of the night). This prayer is not mandatory for Muslims but it is highly regarded and is considered one of the best ways to perfect the soul and get closer to Allah.
Imam Ali himself performed this prayer regularly. And since he knows its benefits for the yearning soul, he recommends it for all worshipers and seekers of the truth.
